Steven Spielberg is a very famous director, writer, producer and humanitarian who inspires people through his creative film making. He is the creative force behind movies that include Jaws, Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan, Raiders of the Lost Ark, ET, Jurassic Park, and many other masterpieces. He continues to work hard to tell stories, including Ready Player One, scheduled for release in early 2018. He inspires people with his ability to bring people together through his hard work.
Spielberg was born on December 18, 1946 into a Jewish family that moved around a lot while he was growing up. He always had a love for film and would make his own films and be inspired by others. Unfortunately, he had a rough childhood. He was bullied in school for being different from others and never got very good grades. When he was 19, his parents got divorced. He did not get into the film school he applied to, and this was a challenging time for him. He has stated that many of the themes of his movies are based on the hard times he endured when he was growing up.
As a young adult, Spielberg would sneak into studios and study the work people did, pursuing his dream of turning his love of the film industry into a rewarding career. He first interned at studios daily and without pay, committed to learning everything he could about the industry. His perseverance paid off and eventually, people saw his films and were impressed with his talent. He was given the opportunity to direct a television show which was a success. Then he was offered the job to direct Jaws, which was released nationwide in 1975. Jaws is considered one of the best movies ever made. People liked this movie so much that it became the first “blockbuster.” It is called that because people were literally standing around the entire block from the movie theater waiting on line to see the movie. It earned the largest amount of money that a movie had ever earned as of 1975. This was the start of a magnificent movie career that has spanned over 40 years.
Throughout his career he worked with other creative people like George Lucas, and Martin Scorsese. They would hang out together and talk about their movies, earning them the nickname “Movie Brats.” They were rivals but they also helped each other. They all felt like one big family. As Spielberg’s career progressed, he directed other well-known movies including the Indiana Jones franchise with George Lucas
Spielberg was considered to be a director of movies with similar themes and wanted to go outside of his boundaries to show everyone that he could do more. In 1993, he made two of his best movies, Schindler’s List and Jurassic Park. These were revolutionary movies, especially Jurassic Park because it was the first movie to show how technology and computers can make something look realistic.
There are some people who think Spielberg is overrated, however, I am inspired by his ability to continue to pursue his dream of making incredible movies.
